Holly Thomson, Skills Coach, C.Y.C. (Cert.)

Holly strives to support children, youth and families with empathy, understanding and openness and aims to work with each individual and family from an anti-oppressive and client centered framework, individualizing their treatment to suit their unique needs.   She works from a strengths based perspective and believes that parents are experts of their own experiences and, therefore, valuable members of the treatment team.   Holly is passionate about helping families find strategies and solutions that work for them and realizes that change is difficult and doesn’t happen overnight; her goal is to guide families through the treatment process so that they can go on to live happier, healthier and more harmonious lives.

 

Holly is a certified Child and Youth Care Practitioner with over 15 years of experience in children’s mental health and developmental services with a strong focus on family work and behaviour modification.  She has worked in a  variety of therapeutic environments including residential treatment facilities, community agencies, schools, hospitals and open custody.  Holly uses evidence based strategies and relies on psycho-social interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, family work  and coping and social skills training as well as utilizing strategies pulled from  Emotion Focused Therapy, Narrative an Play Therapies and Dialectal Behaviour Therapy in order to help children, youth and families increase their skills and decrease conflict within their home.
