Challenging behaviours impact children and families significantly. Behavioural issues can interfere with family relationships, academic success and social success.
Aside from driving you up the wall and making you feel tapped out of solutions and energy, challenging behaviours strain your relationship with your child and can interfere with your child’s academic success and social relationships. Knowing what to do to manage these behaviours is hard, especially when what you are trying isn’t working. With so many parenting books out there and even more people willing to offer advice, knowing which direction to take can be a confusing and overwhelming experience. There is no “one size fits all” approach to managing behaviour, and most families need an approach tailored just for them and the needs of their children. An effective plan will often contain a multifaceted approach that builds on areas of strength and skill. We have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of families facing challenging behaviours, each family different from the next, and each family needing a slightly different plan and approach. Our therapists have had the opportunity to support children with exceptional behaviour needs in various contexts (including residential programs, hospital programs and juvenile justice centres). Many of our therapists are parents too! These experiences allow us to work with you to custom design a concrete plan. Parents tell us these plans help them to feel confident, prepared and equipped to move forward and create change in their family.
