Alison Whitty, (She/Her), MEd, R.P. (Qualifying)
Alison is a dedicated Qualifying Psychotherapist with a strong belief in client-centered care and a holistic approach to mental well-being. Through her collaborative and compassionate approach, Alison creates a safe and nurturing therapeutic environment, empowering individuals to achieve positive change and personal growth.
Alison embarked on her academic journey in Counselling Psychology with a deep passion for helping others. Alison earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, Exercise Physiology from the University of Miami (FL), which provides her with a solid foundation in understanding the human body and the impacts of physical activity on an individual’s behavioral, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Driven by a desire to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions, Alison continued her educational journey and is in pursuit of a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. During Alison’s graduate studies, she received training in several modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Strengths-Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness-based interventions.
In addition to Alison’s education, she has an extensive background working in high performance athletics as both an athlete and coach. Alison was a student-athlete and captain of the University of Miami (FL) rowing team. She also spent time training with the Canadian National Rowing team upon graduation. Outside of her athletic career, she coached rowing at the University of Louisville and the University of Iowa. These experiences taught Alison the importance of mental health and its impacts on athletic performance and overall well-being.
Alison places the client at the center of the therapeutic process. She believes that everyone possesses inherent strengths and wisdom to navigate their own lives. By fostering a collaborative relationship, Alison empowers clients to actively participate in their healing journey and make informed decisions about their well-being. Utilizing her training, Alison helps clients identify and modify unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior. She works with clients to develop practical coping skills, problem-solving techniques, and emotion regulation strategies to address a variety of mental health concerns. With Alison’s collaborative approach and dedication to ongoing growth, she strives to make a positive impact in the lives of those she supports.
